The role of R & D Division of the college is to enhance research and development activities to enable BSA Crescent Engineering college to become a renowned Intellectual corporation fostering excellent research, development, sponsored projects, consultancy, continuing education and Industry Institute Interaction in addition to excellent teaching.

The R&D division motivates the faculty members to carry out research work in areas of their interest, generate project proposals to seek grants from various funding agencies, establish Centres of Excellence in the college and to interact with Industries in and around Chennai with an aim to set up Technology Business Incubator to facilitate speedy commercialization of research outputs .

The division helps the departments to carry out SWOT analysis in order to identify the field of research in frontier level or appropriate technology for tapping funds from various funding agencies. It helps the faculty members to enhance their qualification, reviews their progress in their research and provides necessary guidance to plan and coordinate their research activities. It encourages the faculty members to publish papers in reputed national and international journals and also to participate in international conferences. The college meets 50% of the travel expenses of the staff members. It also motivates students to show case their talents in the international arena by providing travel grants to present papers in national and international conferences.

To enable the departments to take up research and consultancy, periodically laboratories of various departments are modernized in consultation with experts in industries working in the concerned areas. The college allocates budget for various Research & Development activities. The R&D division encourages a ll the departments to take up consultancy work to provide viable solutions to problems faced by the industry and to suggest better methods of production, cost effectiveness, improved reliability and better marketability.
