Shameem Banu, Head of the Department is recognized as Research supervisor by Anna University . Two of the faculty members are Doctorate holders and one member is pursuing Ph.D. Others are qualified with M.Phil or M.Tech degree. The faculty members have published more than 21 International and National papers in reputed journals. Also, the faculty members have presented conference papers both in National (8 Nos.) and International level (2 Nos). The research interests of the department include Solid state physics, Laser Optics, Non-Linear Dynamics and Non-destructive testing. The department organizes State-level one day seminar in Physics namely ‘ CRESCIENCE ' once in three years which enables the students to display their skill and update their knowledge. The Department has conducted Science Exhibition several times for the benefit of the students in and around Chennai.

The Department of Physics, established in the year 1984, is one of the oldest departments of the college. The department caters to the needs of Engineering and Technology programmes and imparts knowledge in Applied Physics, Material Science, Semiconductor Physics, Electronics Devices, Circuits and Engineering Applications to the first year B.E. students. The department is dedicated to its objectives.
