The Department of Computer Science and Engineering was established in the year 1990. Over the past few years, the department has acquired national and international importance. This has been achieved by the collective and responsive effort of the faculty, the supporting staff and the students. Presently, it offers the following courses.

FACILITIES

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering is one of the biggest department in the College. The department has excellent infrastructure facilities to provide quality education and training in the areas of Computer Science and Engineering. Curricular Activities & Achievements

All these courses are affiliated to the Anna University . Both the undergraduate as well as the postgraduate degree programs follows the semester pattern with periodical internal evaluation that culminates with the university examination at the end of each semester. All undergraduate students are encouraged to work on individual projects as well as group projects, while the M.E. students are to carry out individual projects as per the university regulations. Students encouraged to publish papers based on their projects works in journals and conferences. Industrial visits are arranged for students to gain practical exposure. In addition, guest lectures and panel discussion are arranged by inviting eminent persons from organization of repute in the industry.

The Department is endowed with well-qualified 32 faculties. Three faculties are having doctorates and the rest are post graduates (M.E). As on date, 4 faculty members are pursuing Ph.D. Programmes by undertaking research work.

Faculty members are motivated to present and publish research papers in the National and International conferences and Journals. The following faculty members have been recognized as research supervisors by the Anna University to guide Ph.D programmes.

Accreditation by NBA

The Department has been accredited in the last week of April 2006, NBA accreditation committee has visited our department for continuation of accreditation. Further, the Anna University recognizes this department as a Research department for Undertaking on Campus Research studies at Doctorate level.

Students Achievements

  • Best student paper award for our students Mr.V.Ananth Kumar and Mr.V.P.Deepak of B.E. (2004 batch), for their paper named ‘ Fuzzy Enhanced Maneuverability Law For Tactical Missile Guidance' at the sixth international conference of Computing Anticipatory Systems at Liege, Belgium. The paper was highly commended by the Father of Fuzzy logic, Dr.Lotfi Zadeh and many other renowned scientists, who were from as many as 54 countries.
  • Mr Syed Imteyaz, Mr. P. Sriraman, Mr. R. Prabhu, and Mr. K. Pranesh of Final year CSE students won the first prize of Rs. 1 Lakh at the Tsunami Challenge – A Business plan Competition held in IIT, Madras during the year 2005.
  • Mr. Mohamed Ibrahim and Mohamed Kabiruddin of 3rd year CSE students presented a paper on “ Remote Accident Detection and Response “ using GPRS Technology and won a trophy and from Infosys during the year 2006.

Co-curricular activities

The department organises a technical symposium called ARCANE to enrich the students' learning. The IEEE student branch and Computer Society of India – Student chapter provide opportunities and helps to promote organizational and leadership qualities in students apart from exposure to the latest technological advancements. These bodies regularly organize seminars for students on topics of current importance, technical quiz, software design contest etc.

Continuing Education

As a measure of continuing education, the Department of Computer Science and Engineering periodically conduct training Programmes for participants from Industry in Productivity improvement and Design and Analysis Softwares. Students are trained through campus connect programmes and their recruited through in well reputed multinational companies (MNC) like WIPRO and INFOSYS.

Faculty Development programmes are regularly conducted both for internal and external faculty from other colleges.

Industry Institute Participation

The Computer Science and Engineering Department regularly interact with the industry and research centers. MoUs have been signed with CISCO for CCNA Training Programme, IBM for Academic Initiative Program, INFOSYS for Campus Connect Program and WIPRO for I2 Connect Program Nearly 20 to 25 industry oriented projects are undertaken by both P.G. and U.G students of this Department wherein live problems from the industry are taken up for study and offer suitable suggestions. Apart from that, our faculty members are also undertaking industry training.

Computer Laboratories

The Computer Centre features state-of-the-art hardware with nearly 700 computer terminals (networked), printers, plotters, and scanners, supported by language softwares. Laboratories are used even after college hours for project work as well as for practicing their laboratories exercises. Laboratories will be opened after college hours from 4.45 p.m to 12.00 p.m.
