The department of Civil Engineering started in 1984 is one of the oldest departments of this college. The department is accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) and is certified to ISO 9001:2000 from DNV, Netherlands. This department offers the following courses.

1.B.E. Civil Engineering

2.M.E. Structural Engineering

All these courses are affiliated to the Anna University. Students are imparted sound knowledge of Civil Engineering through theory and practical classes. Apart from the regular curriculum of the affiliated university, the department organises industrial training and project work in industries in order to prepare them to meet requirements of the industries. Seminars are made compulsory to improve their English communication and presentation skills. Students are also encouraged to participate in cocurriular and extracurricular activities to develop their all-round personality. Classroom lectures are supplemented by modern multimedia educational technologies. Both undergraduates as well as the postgraduate degree programs follow the semester pattern with periodical internal evaluation that culminates with the university examination at the end of each semester.

The department has a group of well-qualified and experienced faculty members and excellent infrastructure that supports the imparting of education. The highly qualified faculty of this department includes five faculty members with Ph.D. qualification and three members pursuing Ph.D. in the following areas.

• Environmental Geo-techniques
• Self-Compacting / High Performance Concrete
• Light Gauge In-filled Steel Sections

The Faculty members are encouraged to update their knowledge by attending National and International conferences, short-term courses, workshops and seminars and also to pursue their higher studies. Faculty members are also involved in preparing laboratory manuals and publishing textbooks for the benefit of the students.

The department organises a National level technical symposium “CIVICLAN” every year to enrich student’s learning and organizational abilities. In order to promote organizational skills & leadership qualities among students, they are enrolled as members in professional societies like ASCE, SCE, ISTE, ISTD & IE (I). The students are exposed to latest technological advancements through weekly seminars / special invited lectures by leading professionals from institutions and industries.

The department provides facilities for carrying out research with particular emphasis on the latest trends focusing their social relevance with industry-institutes interaction. The department frequently organizes seminars, conferences and workshops for the benefit of the professional and educationists to disseminate the current knowledge and practices in Civil Engineering.
