He worked as Operations Engineer in EMIRATES TRADING AGENCY MELCO, Dubai , UAE from June'86 to May'87. During this period, he directed the installation and maintenance of 45 units of escalators and elevators on site during the construction of the International Conference Center at Kuwait . Performed project management using PERT and CPM. Undertook study of maintenance schedule for the post completion period, which was adopted and is currently in use. He worked as Management Trainee Elevator & Escalator Division in MITSUBISHI ELECTRICAL CORPORATION Inzawa Works, Japan from May'87 to Nov'87. During this period, he was awarded / stipend scholarship for practical training. He acquired extensive familiarity with complete operations from elevator design to customer order processing. He applied minimum stock principles of Materials Requirement Planning for Just-in-time' and KANBAN techniques pertaining to flexible manufacturing for interchangeable product manufacture on a continuous flow assembly line. He worked in AMANA INVESTMENTS LTD, Hong Kong from Nov'87 to Aug'88. During this period, he worked on feasibility of manufacturing elevator in India with Mitsubishi Electrical. As part of this project, he evaluated a $20 million leveraged buyout of an electronics and elevator manufacturing company in India He joined MBA in September 1988 at BABSON COLLEGE (http://www3.babson.edu/mba/ ) in Wellesley , MA , USA , which is Rated # 1 college for Entrepreneurship ahead of Harvard, Wharton in US by US News (http://www.usnews.com/usnews/edu/grad/rankings/mba/brief/mbasp06_brief.php). His Concentration was Entrepreneurship in MBA. He successfully completed MBA in May 1990.
He worked as trainee in TAMIL NADU PETROPRODUCTS LTD, Madras, India from Sept'90 to Dec'91. During this period, he worked in all the divisions of the company in order to get an overall understanding of the operations of a petrochemical plant. The objective of the training was to put up a joint venture petrochemical company with SPIC Group. He worked as Project Director Emirates Trading Agency, Dubai , UAE ( http://www.etaascon.com/etaascon/index.asp ) from Jan'92 to July'94.During this period, the following achievements were made.
- Worked as a Team leader in acquisition of a 940 Tons Per Day Ammonia / Urea from the Sri Lankan Government. The second hand plant was acquired in close co-operation with SPIC in a worldwide tender.
- Set up a team of 25 Engineers and 650 labourers to dismantle, pack and ship the plant from Sri Lanka to United Arab Emirates . This was done in a record time of 10 months within the budget of US$ 7 million.
- The Plant has been relocated in Jebel Ali, UAE for the proposed joint venture company between SPIC and ETA.
He is the Director in various companies in India which are involved in Construction, Automobile dealership, Real Estate Development, Air condition manufacturing, etc.
He was the Director o f WEST ASIA MARITIME LTD, Chennai , India ( www.wam.co.in ) from Aug'94 June'96.
He was the Wholetime Director o f WEST ASIA MARITIME LTD, Chennai , India from June'96 to Nov'01. He started EC Ship Management Co Ltd in 1997 and has managed up to 12 ships. He started a ship operating company in Singapore West Asia Maritime Overseas Private Limited (WAMOPL) with operations in Australia with yearly cargo movement of 2 to 7 million tonnes - http://www.wam.co.in/shipchartering.shtml .
He is the Managing Director of WEST ASIA MARITIME LTD, Chennai, India (www.wam.co.in) from Nov01 till date. During this period, he has guided the company from one ship to a nine ship owning company (40,000 60,000 DWT) and from a turnover of Rs.20 crores to Rs.1289 crores from 1994 to 2007.
He is the Correspondent of BSA Crescent Engineering college (www.crescentcollege.org) run by the all India Islamic Foundation, in which
he is the joint secretary.The Foundation runs 6 educational institutions including Crescent Engineering College. He is also a Member of the Governing Council of BSA Crescent Engineering College and a member of the Seethakathi Trust, an Educational Trust for the development of educational institutions in India.
