MAJOR ACTIVITES CARRIED OUT BY IIPC:

ACTIVITIES IN ASSOCIATION WITH TANSTIA-FNF:

In pursuance of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with Tamilnadu Small and Tiny Industries Association Friedrich Naumann Foundation (TANSTIA-FNF), Guindy, Chennai, IIPC conducted the following programmes / activities jointly with TANSTIA-FNF Service Centre

A one-day workshop on Electrical safety awareness among industrial workers was conducted on 29.04.2003. About 25 participants from 20 industries attended the workshop and benefited.

The IIP Cell of Crescent Engineering College has become a member of the online web portal www.thesmelink.com on 03.05.2003. Through this membership the IIPC has uploaded the Information brochure highlights in the above portal. This portal will be viewed by almost all small and medium scale enterprises.

A one-day workshop on “Basic Computer Skills and Internet Usage” was conducted on 08.08.2003 for the benefit of 25 participants from small and medium scale industries. Dept. of CSE&A provided the faculty and system support.

Prepared a Technical Manual on “Energy Conservation – Simple ways to cut your energy bill” for the benefit of small and medium scale industries.

ACTIVITIES IN ASSOCIATION WITH INDMA:

The IIP Cell facilitated conducting the following programmes for Industrial Manufactures' Association – INDMA (of Tiruvallur and Kanchipuram Dists).

An interaction session with Central Excise and Custom Officials and a Seminar on “Latest Amendments in Central Excise & Customs” was held on 20.12.2002. Mr. K. Vijayaraghavan, IRS (Retd.) was the resource person. About 20 Industries participated in this programme.

INDMA, jointly with Tamilnadu Institute of Labour Studies, organized a two-day programme on “Factory Laws - An Eagle Eye View” 20.01.2003 and 21.01.2003. About 35 industries attended the programme and benefited.

A 3-day Industrial Exhibition INDMA 2003 was organized in association with Industrial Manufacturers Association (INDMA) during Feb 13-15, 2003 in which 31 Industries exhibited their products/ services. Seven Engineering Colleges displayed nearly 20 students' projects. Around 3,000 visitors from 70 industries and 15 Engineering colleges visited the stalls

ACTIVITIES WITH M/s. AUDCO : M/s. AUDCO India Ltd. approached IIPC for testing of water samples . Tests were carried out in the Civil Department and three such samples have been tested so far for BOD, COD, pH, Lead and other parameters.

ACTIVITIES WITH M/s. INDIA GYPSUM: Water sample from M/s. India Gypsum Ltd. was tested in the Civil Department for BOD, COD, pH, Lead, Total Dissolved Solids and other parameters. Also suggestions for improving the water quality were given by Mrs. K. V. Vasanthalatha, Assistant Professor / Civil Engineering Dept. who was in-charge of the lab.

ACTIVITIES WITH M/s. RANE GROUP:

The IIP Cell facilitated conducting a one-day workshop for the Rane Group on “TQM - Total Quality Management” in which about 60 Senior Executives of M/s. Rane Group companies participated

The First TQM workshop was conducted on 22.02.2003 and the second TQM workshop, which was a follow up programme, was conducted on 30.04.2003.

Excellent rapport with M/s. Rane Group has helped us to secure summer inplant training for our B.E students in M/s. Rane Madras, Velachery.

ACTIVITIES IN ASSOCIATION WITH ETA – ASCON, DUBAI

A two year “Supervisory Training Programme” for 29 Trainees of ETA-ASCON, Dubai in six disciplines viz. Electrical, Power Project, Elevators, Civil, Plumbing and HVAC is being conducted since 06.03.2003.

The General Manager - HRM of ETA, Dubai and their team visited the IIPC and had an interaction with the Coordinators and Trainees on 04.05.2003.

Mr. Murugesan and Mr. Srinivasan,
Sr. Executives of ETA-ASCON, Dubai conducted a general awareness programme for the trainees.

VISIT TO DUBAI:

Recently Dr. K. P. Mohammed, Principal, Dr. T. Thyagarajan, Chief Coordinator and the six coordinators visited ETA – ASCON, Dubai for a period of 10 Days to have better understanding of the industrial environment where the ETA – ASCON Trainees will be working after the training and hence to orient the training to suit their requirements.

STUDY MISSION TO INDUSTRIES OF EXCELLENCE:

IIP Cell sponsored a five member delegation for a “Study Mission to Industries of Excellence” on Aug 22, 2003 which was organized by Confederation of Indian Industries – Southern Region (CII-SR). The delegation visited M/s Dragoco India Ltd., Semmanchery and M/s Orchid Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals Ltd., Alathur

INDUSTRY- INSTITUTE INTERACTION MEET:

IIPC organized an Industry Institute Interaction Meet on Oct. 22, 2003 with the co-operation and support from all the departments. All the HODs made a presentation about the facilities and expertise available in their departments. Industry representatives from about 15 industries including TEAM, SPEL SEMICONDUCTORS, IP RINGS, TMI, CALTEX etc. attended the Meet and interacted with the faculty of various departments. They also visited our laboratories to know in detail about the facilities available.

CURRENT ACTIVITIES:

During the period from April 2004 to June 2004, the IIPC coordinated with various departments, students and companies for facilitating summer industrial training / short term projects . The companies include Siemens Information Systems Limited, Rane NSK, Wriston Polymers, Indotech Transformers Limited, East Coast Constructions & Industries Limited, Alstom Limited, Central Power Research Institute, I.P.L. Products, TNEB etc.

It is proposed to conduct the following workshops in association with TANSTIA – FNF Service Centre, Guindy starting from August, 2004.
